After  successful alumni meets in Bangalore followed by two more get-togethers in Seattle and Bay Area in August, the final alumni meet for 2018 culminated in the Hyderabad meet to coincide with IIIT-H’s 20th anniversary celebrations on 1st September.

The event saw an impressive turn out of alumni from various batches, with some bringing their families along as well for a nostalgic trip down memory lane.

Prof. P J Narayanan welcomed the gathering and apprised alumni on IIIT-H’s trajectory over the last 2 decades, and plans for the future.

Recollecting his first lecture at IIIT-Hyderabad on 2nd September 1998, which incidentally was also the institute’s very first lecture for the inaugural batch, Prof. Kaul shared some of his memories from that day.  Much to the crowds delight, Prof. Govindarajulu also shared his student memories, some memorabilia of early project works, cartoons students had drawn of him, and other hilarious memories from the early days.

Prof. Jayanthi Sivaswamy and Prof. Vishal Garg shared their views on how alumni can productively engage with the institute – be it in the form of IIIT-H brand ambassadors, mentoring students, career counselling, giving guest lectures, connecting IIIT-H’s research with their respective companies, generating funds for the institute and even return to the institute as faculty etc.

This was followed by an open interactive with alumni spearheaded by Prof Kamalar Karlapalem.  The meet concluded by felicitating some of the institute’s initial staff and faculty, vote of thanks, group photograph and high tea.
