Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala, IIT Madras is  the new Chairman of IIIT Hyderabad’s Governing Council. He will take over from Turing Award winner Prof. Raj Reddy,  Carnegie Mellon University on 2 September.

Prof. Jhunjhunwala is an accomplished researcher and builder of several communication technologies including the WLL (Wireless in Local Loop) in late ‘90s. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2002 for his contributions. He has since been involved with several national efforts; one of his big achievements is the establishment of the IIT Madras Research Park, a major innovation ecosystem within the academia that has had a huge impact. He has recently been promoting Electric Vehicles, DC power systems, etc., at the technology and policy levels. He is passionate about converting the fruits of research to technology that reaches the broad society. Prof. Jhunjhunwala was a part of the  IIITH Governing Council for about 9 years till 2019.
