Library’s new spaces

September 2022

Prof. P J Narayanan in the presence of Registrar Prof. K S Rajan, Library Committee Members, Faculty Members, Office Bearers of the Students’ Parliament, Staff and Students inaugurated the library’s  new reading room as well as new reference cum stack area and other facilities on 13 September. These new facilities are on the first floor of the library main block.

These facilities will meet the long standing demand of students to have a study area where they can bring their own books. During  Covid disruptions when the library worked at levels less than usual and most students were away from campus, a lot of attention was paid to improve the holdings of books and research resources, as well as seating and reading convenience.

Prof. Narayanan addressed the gathering on the occasion and exhorted the students and faculty to make maximum use of these improved facilities. He was appreciative of the work put in by the library staff and committee and encouraged them to use the silver jubilee year of IIITH’s foundation to build the library of the future.

Dr. Aniket Alam and Dr. G Muralidhar shared the details of the improvements of the library like the improved infrastructure, book collection and other reading resources. Dr. Alam said, “we aim to grow the IIITH library collections to one lakh books covering all disciplines of computer science, natural sciences, mathematics, human sciences, literature and general reading books”. Dr. Alam said that the library should become the premier knowledge centre in Hyderabad attracting researchers from all over for its extensive academic resources. He underlined the importance of the reading room facility and exhorted the students to make full use of this new facility for self study and to work in groups.
