Water Quantity and Quality Management of Reservoir-River Systems

The Hydroclimatic Research Group organised an online workshop on Online Brainstorming Session on Water Quantity and Quality Management of Reservoir-River Systems on 15 March.

The effective water quality and quantity management in river systems is crucial for safeguarding ecosystems, public health, and sustainable development. This workshop brought together experts, researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds to explore innovative solutions, share knowledge, and foster collaboration in tackling water quantity and quality issues in reservoir-river systems.

Academicians of IIIT Hyderabad; Director; Senior  Hydrologists and Assistant Engineers from Advanced Centre for Integrated Water Resources Management (ACIWRM); Chief Engineer and Assistant Engineers of Water Resource Department, Government of Karnataka participated in the workshop.

The session commenced with a gracious welcome address from Dr. Shaik Rehana,  who delved into the intricacies of  Water Quantity and Quality Management of the Bhadra Reservoir-River System. Dr. Rehana’s technical discourse spotlighted the implementation of IoT-based real-time monitoring of river water quality, along with the seamless integration of this data into the Decision Support System tool engineered by her esteemed research team. Then, two Ph.D scholars – Mummidivarapu Satish Kumar and Avantika Latwal under Dr. Shaik Rehana’s guidance presented their individual research findings concerning the Bhadra case study.

Transitioning into the second phase of the session, Assistant Engineers Teju Kumar and Dr. Abhishek Tippa from the Advanced Centre for Integrated Water Resources Management (ACIWRM), Bangalore, presented their comprehensive studies on the water quality of the Tungabhadra River and overview of Tungabhadra subbasin water management respectively. Finally, Dr. P Soma Shekar Rao, director of ACIWRM, shared his thoughts on the workshop. Dr. Rao and Dr. Shaik Rehana wrapped up the session with closing remarks.
