Remembering Satyajit Ray: The legendary filmmaker and writer

To mark the birth centenary of Satyajit Ray, Student Life Committee (SLC) is organizing talks by Prof. Ujjal Chakraborty and Prof. Sushmita Banerji

Prof. Ujjal Chakraborty is an author, artist, teacher, researcher as well as an internationally recognized Satyajit Ray Scholar. He has authored more than 10 books including The Director’s Mind which won him a National Award in 2010. He has also authored four historical novels on colonialism in India and is a faculty member of the Department of Animation of an Indo-Italian Film Institute in Kolkata.

Prof. Sushmita Banerji is an Assistant Professor at the Research Centre for Human Sciences, IIIT Hyderabad. She has an M.Phil in Literary Studies, EFLU Hyderabad and a Ph.D in Film Studies from the  Department of Cinematic Arts, University of Iowa. Her primary work is on the cinema of Ritwik Ghatak. She is interested in critical theories of film and literature, partition and trauma studies, Indian cinema, and contemporary US film. She has published in Deep Focus, Mediapolis and South Asian Popular Culture.
